D-6AC VAC MELT N&T

D-6AC Vac Melt Normalized & Tempered is a premium aircraft quality medium carbon alloy that provides ultra-high strength for structural applications. This material is usually melted in an Electric Furnace, and then remelted via Consumable Electrode Vacuum Arc Remelting. This produces a much cleaner steel meeting the magnetic particle test requirements of AMS-2300. The normalized and tempered condition provides the best machinability. This steel provides a high yield strength to tensile strength ratio, combined with good ductility. D6AC can be heat treated to strengths ranging from 180 to 260 ksi. Alloy D-6AC is often used in the aerospace industry to produce shafts, axles and parts for landing gears. (UNS K24728)
