403/410 is a martensitic iron alloy dual certified by meeting the chemical and mechanical specifications of both grades. This aircraft quality alloy provides good corrosion resistance plus high strength and hardness. It is magnetic in both annealed and hardened conditions. A wide range of properties can be developed with different heat treatments. Applications requiring moderate corrosion resistance and high mechanical properties are ideal for this alloy. Used typically for parts requiring a combination of high room temperature tensile properties with oxidation resistance up to 1000 F (538 C) and where control of ferrite content is necessary. 403/410 material is often used for turbine parts, compressor blades, flat springs, knives, kitchen utensils and hand tools.
