K-500 SOL & AGED

K500 Solution Treated and Aged has approximately three times the yield strength and double the tensile strength when compared with Alloy 400. Plus, it can be further strengthened by cold working prior to precipitation hardening. The strength of this nickel steel alloy is maintained to 1200 F but stays ductile and tough down to temperatures of 400 F. Its melting range is 2400-2460 F. When in the age-hardened condition, K-500 has a greater tendency toward stress-corrosion cracking in some environments than Alloy 400. K500 is typically used in the aged hardened condition and found in oil and gas applications as well as marine environments that have a high salt content. The corrosion resistance of the alloy allows it to combat salt water for long periods of time. This alloy is frequently used for pump shafts, valves, gears, propeller shafts and for components in the Chemical, Oil and Gas Industries. (UNS N04400)
